Religion – A choice to love or hate.

First things first – I am agnostic, neither do I believe in the existence of a supreme being, neither do I deny it. Though I am slowly leaning towards, or already far leaned already, into the side of non-believer.
But religion has never ceased to fascinate me and make me think. I think it is because of the power it wields over men – driving them to believe in anything and everything and fall prey to acts of crime and violence, all in the name of a God/Super power that we don’t know exists.

I suppose religion was created (read as -scriptures were written), in order to instill in the minds of humans, a sense of something above them and that, this supreme thing/being would take into account all of man’s actions after he passes into the other world, to be judged and treated accordingly.

But today it seems to be serving the totally opposite purpose than what it was intended for. Today it is instigating violence in the name of the lord. It creates fanatics and thugs who in the name of religion try to exert their ideals and opinions on the masses that blindly follow.

I have nothing against religion; I truly believe that religion in India so far has done more good for its people that bad. But as of today with fanaticism on the rise and easy access of spreading hate through social media, it could mean a complete change in the peaceful way that things are today.

A mass of Islam followers trashed the Amar Jawan site a few days back – as protest against killing of Islam followers in Myanmar which was showcased in a photo on some crappy news site. It finally turned out that the photo was not even from Myanmar, it was some other event in Thailand. And so an act of violence done for nothing - even the cause that it was done for was was not true.

The Godhra train case, The Mumbai massacres in 93, killing of a Christian missionary in Orissa, Christian priests who turned out to be paedophiles. Every religion is equally deep in its load of shit.

And another important point to mention – we already have 3 major religions in India with a lot of followers in each filled with hatred for the other. The new one coming up is the atheist religion, yes it seems it too has a lot of hate filled fanatic followers and so I brand it as another religion. They seem to take pleasure in creating more issues through their religion insulting posts and messages.  If you truly want to make change start by spreading love you guys and not hating! And then they talk about humanity – my foot!

Why the hatred for some nameless person somewhere struggling to work and make it work for himself and his family? We need to look at people as people and not as religions name tags!

I believe that along with Jesus and Allah and Krishna we all need to heed to the other God in us – our consciousness.

Let consciousness be our God and  love be our Religion. "Peace will then be upon us" as promised in all the scriptures.
