Religion - A hypocrites favourite

My mother was a firm believer in a "Baba". The baba passed away and a view into his personal chamber revealed some "not so baba-ish truths. I asked my mother what she thought of him now and she said, "I never said he was a saint, I was just sharing the fact he was a good human being, look at the stuff he has done for the poor.

He had built hospitals and schools from the funds that came in as donation, and charged many of the users of these facilities and offered free services to a few - How does this amount to service to humanity one wonders. I have scores of friends who followed a few things that they felt their religion liked them to do and conveniently ignored most other doctrines because it did not fit their life style.

Religion is a hypocrites favorite tool. Why wont you eat that particular meat I ask - religion you say. Why are you slitting that innocent mans throat for something that his country did and which he has absolutely no control over I ask - religion you say. Why wont you kill that fly I ask - religion you say. Why are you asking your women folk to mutilate their sexual organs I ask - religion you say.

You very righteously say that your god is the all forgiving, the all kind and the big hearted one and your holy books clearly states non violence. But you kill, plunder and loot and when asked why - you say your scriptures are to be read in some different context, some context that nobody else except you seem to see!

Your religion has written statements saying women are to be respected, no, worshiped, and yet you treat your wife like a slave. You strongly believe that bigamy is wrong, but your scriptures has so many references to bigamy and if someone does choose to do this, he will hide conveniently behind your gods actions. And when confronted as to why bigamy exists in your scriptures you say that was a different time and things were different and it was allowed. Going by the same lines today is a different day - and in this different age why is it not ok for your wife to wear what she pleases? My religious friend - you will not agree - hypocrisy is deep rooted in religion.

Your religion says all men are equal. Then the very same religion suddenly was interpreted to have classification among men. Ask the higher caste, god believing, more aware man on his thoughts on this and he will again twist the context saying caste system as professed in the scriptures was to be based on knowledge, but man tweaked it to suit his needs to ensure his progeny lived the good life he lived. Hypocrisy my dear religious friend is part of the process on which religion was created.

Your doctrine of faith clearly states that you be kind, patient and help mankind. You choose to ignore all that. You set your eyes on only those points of the scriptures that you take a fancy to. Your brains ( the brain like all other organs was discovered by science and not by a godman or a miracle man) natural tendency of selective attention takes hold here. If I ask you on this, you will slip away by making some vague statement from your scripture saying the messiah that you ascribe to in your religion asks you to interpret it the way you are doing it. The same book when interpreted by the next door messiah will throw up something else and there will be a set of followers for that as well! And the best part - you will end up killing each other for this vague idea.

My dear religious friend, I don't hate you for your faith, unlike your brethren that will slaughter me for not falling in line with your thought. I have the utmost regard for your faith in something knowing fully well that it is causing more harm than good. I implore you to take a less violent stance, and for the sake of mankind's peaceful existence open your eyes and voice your dissent against the killing and murder. Don't hide behind blind doctrine when you know something is wrong. Only when you start telling your sociopathic counterpart doing this violence that you do not stand by him and do not support this will he understand that his aim will not come about.

And my dear religious friend - today he kills for one religion, tomorrow he will kill for one region that houses that religion, the day after he will kill for his faction of that religion and the day after that he will kill for the skin colour that he deems fit to live under that religion. There is a lot at stake here my religious friend - you and I and our families.

Let love be our religion and consciousness our God.
