Home is where the heart is...

A place is not a place alone. Even an adopted place is not just a place alone. It grows into you. It gives you a sense of peace, in spite of the snarling traffic and crowds and noise. You come to a point of loving it unconditionally with no judgement and you care for it like you do a loved one.

You fall in love with the city. I'ts people and weather and it's small activities that surrounds you day in and day out. Its a rhythm that becomes yours, something that lodges in the deep gorges of your brain for whatever reason, and chooses to stay there in spite of the logical explanations you give to be at another place, more money to be made, bigger and better houses to be had - but no, the city loves you and you love it even more.

Your life now is not just you and your decisions. It is also governed by the place you love so much. You adapt to its requirements like you do for a loved one. Maybe with a little annoyance, but then you realize that it was worth it and in the long run forget that you had even adapted.

A place can make or break your happiness. Give a man all the money in the world, all the things he desires and put him somewhere prosperous, but not his place - he will for sure, after the initial elation, miss home and yearn for ways to get back.

It could be a psychological reason, or an evolutionary mechanism to ensure longevity - whatever the reason, nothing can give as much joy as being home.

Whoever said it, said it best when they said - Home is where the heart is.
